ORIGINAL OWNER MARTIN ALTO "MARS INVADES EARTH" SAXOPHONE COMMITTEE ONE HANDCRAFT 1937 NEEDS WORK TO PLAY MAYBE ORIGINAL LAC ?
ACCORDING TO EXPERT SITE
THE MARTIN STORY:
Made 1935 - 1938, Ser# 114### - 130###) Classification: Professional
I call this horn Handcraft Committee because it's the predecessor op the Comm-II, also called Committee 2. In combination with the fact that the name Handcraft still is engraved on the horn, that would make it a Handcraft Committee.
The HC committee has the low B and Bb keys on one side.
Note the city-skyline and searchlights (also called "Mars takes over the earth") engraving. That's the normal engraving to be found on this horns. It give them the nicknames "Martin Skyline" or "Martin Searchlight".
Some people actually prefer these horns in stead of the later Comm-II or The Martin horns.
Early models have a fixed right thumbrest, later models feature a adjustable one (change somewhere around 118K)
1 NOT SURE IF THIS IS AN OLD RELAC OR NOT ??? THESE HANDCRAFTS SOMETIMES DID NOT HAVE GREAT LAC TO BEGIN WITH. I WOULD NOT COMMIT TO SAYING FOR SURE A RELAC BUT I AM NOT REALLY POSITIVE ?? LOOK AT PICS.
2 IT WAS SERVICED BACK IN 1953 SEE SLIP. IT IS NOT PLAYING WELL. MAYBE TECH COULD ADD PADS AND RESEAT OLDER ONES ???
3 LOOKS LIKE IN DECENT SHAPE AS FAR AS DENTS.
4 NECK SERIAL AND BODY HAVE SAME SERIAL
5 NECK NO PULL DOWN BUT HAS A SMALL PING SEE PICS.
6 Eb TOP BRACE TOP FOOT PUSHED IN BUT ROD NOT BROKEN AT MERGING AREA OF DIMOND BASE.
7 NO PAST BAD REPAIRS I SEE BUT I AM NOT A TECH SO LOOK AT ALL PICS.
BELL TO BODY BRACE FINE. I FELT DOWN INTO BELL SMOOTH ADJACENT TO
THE BELL BRACE
8 COMES WITH NO CASE NO MOUTHPIECE
9 PEARLS LOOK PRETTY GOOD NONE CRACKED COULD USE A BIT OF CLEANING BUT IN GOOD SHAPE. ALL ROLLERS ROLL FINE.
10 THIS MODEL HAS THE HEART SHAPE OCT. KEY VERY COMFORTABLE. ALSO HAS ADJUSTABLE THUMB REST. STRAP RING SHOWS NO REAL WEAR SUGGESTING NOT A LOT OF USE.
11 THIS HAS PRETTY RARE C# ADJUSTABLE SCREW SEE PIC. VERY HANDY FOR INTONATION.
12 CORK ON NECK OK FOR NOW.
13 NOT SILVER PLATED KEYS BUT SOLID ( GERMAN ? ) NICKEL. NICE FEEL KEYWORK
