Description
Vintage 1939 Strasser-Marigaux-Lemaire (SML) tenor saxophone, with original Perma-Gold finish, serial number 3188.SML is probably the best known French maker of saxophones and produced high quality instruments.
Horns like this one are commonly called the "Rev. A."
The body is in fair to good cosmetic condition, consistent with age and use.
This was a very finely crafted instrument, with excellent design - perhaps some of the best ever in a saxophone! Mouthpiece cover is Selmer brand so not original. This sax was stored in pet free, smoke free, climate controlled conditions and not played for decades. Evaluated for repairs in February 2022 and was told this instrument is a "true gem." Repairs included: silver solder of octive key and lyre holder, replacement of 2 pads and neck cork, replacement of 4 guard screws, horn also aligned and adjusted. This particular saxophone comes in a vintage (1920's??) Buescher True Tone hard case from Elkhart, Indiana. (Spring missing on one latch but both close correctly). These horns don't come up for sale very often in any condition so don't miss this opportunity! Will be insured for shipping.
